About the Author
Welcome! I am Kristen Paral- mother to Jack (11) and Lucille (9) and wife to Jason. Though I was born and raised in California, I have been a resident of the Washington, DC area for over fifteen years. I enjoy nature walks, urban hiking, strolling through museums, casual bike rides and other contemplative outings with my family and dog, Baxter.
My professional and personal passion is the interdisciplinary study of the sciences and philosophy as they relate to the development of humans. I strive to understand why humans parent the way we do and how our beliefs and practices not only influence children, but also illuminate critical elements of ourselves and our culture.
I hold a B.S. in Liberal Studies, cum laude from Cal Poly with a focus on math and science education, a minor in Child Development, an emphasis in Elementary Education and a teaching credential. I have worked with children and families in diverse contexts for over 15 years, including, but not limited to, elementary schools, preschools, child development research centers, private child care and, most importantly, as a mother.
I am proud to have founded Intelligent Nest, LLC in 2011 and continue to enjoy offering empirical, personalized and non-judgmental parenting advice to my clients in the form of seminars, consultations and popular articles.
